FRA’s Electra House Fit Out Completes

London-based specialist college and training provider Fashion Retail Academy (FRA) has opened the doors to their wonderful new home at Electra House – much to the delight and satisfaction of students and staff, returning for the start of the academic year.

Parkeray was delighted to assist FRA in preparing their new premises for their 2024 intake following the move from their home of 18 years on Tottenham Court Road. Our team, led by Karl Severs, Graham Lees, Jayson Bratt, David Sweeney, Arek Nikodem and Harry James, oversaw the comprehensive yet sensitive refurbishment of the eight-storey, Grade II Listed building over 21 weeks to provide new educational facilities. The space, which is double the footprint of FRA’s previous building, includes a rich mix of design studios, lecture theatres and classrooms, with a bright and modern library, café, and communal areas.

Inherited challenges

The project faced challenges due to delays with the landlord refurbishment and the contractor going into administration. However, with a proactive and super flexible approach, our team met FRA’s strict deadline through accelerated work, including out-of-hours and weekend work. It enabled the installation of furniture and AV whilst incorporating a familiarisation period for staff to become acquainted with the building before the start of term.

Intricate services

Installing new services to support the reconfigured layout was a significant part of the project, including new ventilation ductwork, a steel plant deck, and air handling units (AHUs). This required close coordination with the City of London Highways to crane lift materials into the lightwells.

We are thrilled to support FRA with the opening of this stunning new location. Congratulations to all involved in bringing this fantastic scheme to life.
