Partnerships and Pavilions with UDS & TOG

Our team was super chuffed to partner with Universal Design Studio (UDS) and The Office Group (TOG) for the London Design Festival for the second year running.

The London Design Festival (LDF) promotes London as the design centre of the world and showcases a variety of events that celebrate all aspects of design from the UK and abroad.

This year’s concept provided by UDS involved the construction of  a temporary pavilion: The Framework for Exchange at The Black & White Building in Shoreditch. Designed as an experimental space to promote peer-to-peer exchange naturally found in shared workspaces, the pavilion explores the framework required to cultivate interaction and knowledge sharing.

Our team, led by Jon Pye, took part in a series of meetings with UDS and TOG to help develop their vision into a practical build solution. Open to the public for events and parties, the pavilion needed to be structurally sound to support visitors across two levels, whilst utilising as little scaffold as possible to preserve the design intent.

Our site managers Bishak Rutkowski and Bartek Zawadzki together with our trusty supply chain: Glenfyne Carpentry, King Décor, Southbourne Electrical and MR Scaffolding delivered the construction phase over a five-week period, to meet the festival start date, while the Black & White Building remained in occupation. The scope of works included the construction of a roof, platform and staircase installations as well as lighting, power and final decorations.

The pavilion successfully opened on Monday 15 September and ran a full program of events through to Sunday 23 September. Following the event, our team safely decommissioned the structure.

Paul Gulati, Associate Director from Universal Design Studio commented: “We’re so pleased you helped make this happen again this year, we really couldn’t have done it without you. Everyone thought it was a real success, so please pass on our thanks to all of your team.”

It was fantastic to partner our friends at TOG and UDS once again, we look forward to LDF 2019.
